Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
Central to Traditional Chinese Medicine theory is the concept of Qi or life force energy. The classical Chinese explanation is that Qi flows in channels throughout the body and over its surfaces. These channels are rivers of energy, which are referred to as meridians. The Chinese have identified 71 meridians in the human body, which is the basic energy map for all people. The meridians are often compared to a series of interconnected highways. Each of the major organs in the body is associated with its own meridian. Through the network of meridians the internal organs are connected to certain areas and parts of the body including the muscles, bones, joints, and also other organs.

The Chinese believe that health is a manifestation of balance, both within the body itself and between the body and the external environment. When the body is internally balanced and in harmony with the external environment, Qi flows smoothly through the meridians to nourish the organs and tissues. If an obstruction occurs in one of the meridians, the Qi is disrupted and cannot flow properly. When the Qi cannot flow smoothly or is forced to flow in the opposite direction, the body's innate balance is disrupted and illness results.

My goals as a practitioner of TCM is to assist the healthy movement of Qi allowing not only the resolution of illness and pain but to also increase energy and vitality, preserve youth, and promote longevity. I use a combination of acupuncture, sound and vibration therapy, therapeutic massage, Chinese herbs, Qi Gong, life style recommendations, as well as nutritional and dietary changes to assist your body's smooth flow of Qi. This smooth flow maintains health and well-being.

TCM is safe and without side effects. Its actions are regulatory, encouraging the body to make natural changes from within. TCM can treat acute and chronic conditions and can help in many situations where Western medicine may have limited solutions.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the gentle insertion of very fine needles to specific points on the body. This process stimulates movement of energy within the body, allowing natural healing to take place.

needles2.gif Acupuncture is an energetic form of medicine that is over 5000 years old. Through the manipulation of very fine needles, acupuncture is a safe and effective way to maintain and restore optimal health. Acupuncture points are the specific points on the meridians (review the TCM section for more information on meridians) where the Qi is both concentrated and accessible. Acupuncture engages the Qi by inserting needles at these specific points, the goal being to restore the proper flow of Qi. As the body regains its natural balance, well-being returns. (Please review the Initial Treatment page for more details concerning the specifics of your personalized acupuncture treatment.)

Sound and Vibration Therapy
The Acutonics® Healing System is an energy-based non-invasive treatment that is similar to acupuncture. Precision calibrated tuning forks are applied to specific acupuncture and acupressure points to access the body's Meridian and Chakra energy systems.

acutonics_full_view_sm.jpgThe rich resonance and vibration connects with and supports the body's natural frequencies and alignment allowing for the smooth flow of life force energy. The tuning fork is struck on an Acutonics® Acuvator then placed on the body or held near the ears. The sound waves of the forks vibrate and travel deeply into the body along energy pathways, affecting human physiology and reaching places not easily accessed by traditional medicine. Applying the forks stimulates and balances the body's physical and subtle energy field to promote healing and inner harmony.

My goal as a practitioner is to provide the finest in both traditional energetic techniques, such as Acupuncture, and many newer energetic techniques using sound and vibration therapy. The sound and vibration therapy is excellent for an individual whose body is "under attack". During times of crisis with pain and illness, the nervous system is frequently jammed in a trauma feed back loop. The nervous system is in a heightened state of fight or flight working for the survival of the individual. This feedback loop is frequently the reason why the body is unable to heal and regenerate. The sound and vibration help the nervous system to re-calibrate, facilitating a relaxed state where healing can begin.

Chinese Herbs
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, herbs are an essential part of the treatment. As a patient, you will be educated on the herbal options available to you.

herbs.jpgResonation Acupuncture is dedicated to ensuring that patients receive superior quality herbs, whether they are loose, in a liquid extract or tablet form. The majority of herb formulas prescribed are from Kan Herb Company. Kan provides the highest pharmaceutical-grade herbal products. Every formula is test for pesticides, heavy metals, and microbial levels. The information for each lot is available on their website.

In designing and prescribing an herb formula, special care is taken to ensure the correct properties in the herb formula are available to address your specific health concerns. When selecting or creating an herb formula, the temperatures and tastes of each specific herb are taken into account to ensure the formula is balanced. I take great caution to research that the herbs I prescribe will be unlikely to interact with any medications the patient is already ingesting. I invite questions regarding the herbs, supplements and drugs that my patients are taking so that they always feel comfortable and confident taking herbs.

Herbal medicine has traditionally been used all over the world to treat every kind of illness and disease. This rich history of thousands of years and many healing modalities creates a foundation of herbal knowledge I feel privileged to be working with.
